Farhaven Pre-Alpha Quickstart Guide August 2026

We're thrilled to invite you to join Farhaven’s pre-alpha playtest. To make your experience better, we've provided the Quickstart guide below. The Read Me has additional information about the game.

NEW to this release!

• Invite people to join your multiplayer game with invite codes. You do NOT need to be online simultaneously to invite someone with an invite code, which makes it easier than ever to invite friends to Farhaven.

  • To invite a friend, start a multiplayer game. Once you’re in the game, go to the menu and you will see an “Invite Codes” option in addition to “Invite with Steam” and “Invite with Discord.” Select “Invite Codes” and you can choose between single-use or multi-use code.

  • To join a game with an invite code, start the game and on the main menu screen, choose multiplayer. You’ll see a Join with Code box; enter the invite code and you’ll be placed into your friend’s multiplayer game.

• Improved multiplayer notifications let you know when your friend(s) have made a meaningful contribution to the town, including donating items to a town building. You’ll also know when someone has signed on to the town while you’re playing.

• Better tutorial so you never have to do multiple combat runs during the single-player tutorial phase.

• Improved combat balance so leveling up feels more rewarding. Also, it’s significantly harder to die in the combat tutorial (and in general).

• A new enemy for you to fight, with new loot drops.

• Significant art additions, including new NPC homes and interiors

• General bug fixes.

Multiplayer Setup

Farhaven is best when played with friends, but you don't all have to play at the same time. From the main menu, choose Multiplayer Game to start the game and create the initial save file. You can then invite your friends to the game. Players who are invited to the game via Steam or Discord must have the game installed first.

• With Steam: Once the multiplayer game is running, open the Main Menu, click Steam Invite and click on the friend you wish to invite (must be Steam friends). Alternatively, a Steam Friend who has the game installed may also right-click on your name and select "Join Game."

• With Discord: Once the multiplayer game is running, open the Main Menu, click Discord Invite and click on the friend you wish to invite (must be friends on Discord). Both players need to have done the Discord Connection step above to get the invite directly in the game.

• With an Invite Code:

  • To invite a friend, start a multiplayer game. Once you’re in the game, go to the menu and you will see an Invite Codes option in addition to Invite with Steam and Invite with Discord. Select Invite Codes, and you can choose between a single use code or multiuse code.

  • To join a game with an invite code, start the game and on the main menu screen, choose multiplayer. You’ll see a Join with Code box; enter the invite code and you’ll be placed into your friend’s multiplayer game.

Once the friend accepts the invitation and loads the multiplayer game, they are associated with that game going forward. Games are saved under the town name chosen by the player who originated the town, and players do not need to play at the same time. Players can participate in more than one town and can play both single and multiplayer games.

Notes and Help

• The tutorial is a single-player experience until you build the Town Hall. When you complete the Town Hall, you'll be placed in the multiplayer town. Each person must complete the tutorial, but once you are done, you will be playing with all the people who are also finished.

• To move items from your Inventory to your HotBar:

  • On keyboard and mouse, press "I" to open Inventory and drag the item from inventory to the HotBar. Drag and drop also works to move items to and from the chest and within the HotBar.

  • On controller, press Select to bring up the inventory and highlight the item you would like to move, then highlight where you would like to move it to and press A.

• When adventuring, we strongly recommend adventuring with friends! Bring friends to Ronni's Mist Gate and press F (or A on controller) to start the adventure. As you proceed from room to room in the adventure, you must all be on the same gate to proceed to the next room. If you aren't proceeding, check the diamonds above the gate to be sure all are green. (Also, all monsters in a room must be killed before you can exit.) Up to four may adventure at a time. Don't forget to invite NPCs to adventure with you if you don't have a full team. Known Bug: In an adventure, all NPCs appear as Groghan.

• When crafting, we strongly recommend using X to add a bonus ingredient. Bonus ingredients add surprising effects to your armor and weapons; experimenting can be both fun and an easy way to boost your protection and damage at the start of the game.

• Decorations have dedicated storage, so player Inventory isn't filled with couches, lamps, and unkillable houseplants. This is accessible from the inventory menu as separate tab.
